SERIOUS ABOUT SECURITY

Selecting your security contractor!

With economic times the way they are it is very easy to make decisions about products and services based on "the bottom line". Unfortunately, this may lead to serious consequences when the time comes that you need performance from your SECURITY or LIFE SAFETY SYSTEM!

We have a couple of strong recommendations for you when choosing a contractor.

First; is the company or person that you are contracting with, licensed to perform such work? Contractors for practically all intrusion, CCTV (IP or Analog), and access control systems are required to be licensed by the state, specifically the North Carolina Alarm Systems Licensing Board. Here's a link to the NCASLB that lists the current licensed contractors:  License/Permit/Certification Summary

Second; and one contingent to obtaining and maintaining an alarm license is that the person/company must also hold a current Electrical Contractor license from the NC State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors.  Here's a link to NCSBEEC's look-up site for current contractors: Find a Licensed Contractor

By ensuring that your contractor meets the above qualifications, you have some assurances that the contractor has general liability and workers compensation insurance. Additionally, the requirements for employment with an "Alarm Licensed" company include criminal background checks, photographs and fingerprints to be on file with NC Department of Justice. Continuing Education credits are required for renewals.

Note: Fire Alarm Systems are not covered in the NC Alarm Systems Licensing Act (N.C.G.S. 74D), however, contractors for Fire Alarm and Detection Systems are required to be licensed by NCSBEEC. (issuance and renewals are contingent on proof of required insurance and CEU's)

Beyond the strong recommendations above, another recommendation is to select a contractor that is trained and certified on the equipment that he is proposing to provide. You have seen icons on our website for Panasonic, Bosch, DMP, Identicard and Secure Care. There have benn many instances that Allen Security has been asked for a "different solution" or even "a cheaper solution"  . Allen Security is associated, as authorized dealers, with the above-mentioned companies because of the quality of product's, length and strength of warranty's, and the method of replacement of defective equipment. Each of these companies, and some others, require a commitment to training, product specific service tools, and service stock equipment. "Some others" may refer to companies that have quality equipment and similar commitment levels. However, WE have found it to be difficult to maintain our commitment to quality and support a large variety of equipment. We choose the most effective, efficient, and reliable product from manufacturers with strong reputations in quality, train our technicians, and generally have replacement equipment (if needed) in stock.

74D‑2. Licenses required.

(a)No person, firm, association, corporation, or department or division of a firm, association or corporation, shall engage in or hold itself out as engaging in an alarm systems business without first being licensed in accordance with this Chapter. For purposes of this Chapter an "alarm systems business" is defined as any person, firm, association or corporation which sells or attempts to sell by engaging in a personal solicitation at a residence or business when combined with personal inspection of the interior of the residence or business to advise on specific types and specific locations of alarm system devices, installs, services, monitors or responds to electrical, electronic or mechanical alarm signal devices, burglar alarms, television cameras or still cameras used to detect burglary, breaking or entering, intrusion, shoplifting, pilferage, or theft. A department or division of a firm, association or corporation may be separately licensed under this Chapter if the distinct department or division, as opposed to the firm, association or corporation as a whole, engages in an alarm systems business. Such a department or division shall ensure strict confidentiality of private security information, and the private security information of the department or division must, at a minimum, be physically separated from other premises of the firm, association or corporation.
